Ellen DeGeneres Launches New Bag Collection

Ellen DeGeneres is in the bag business!  She has collaborated once again with Camuto Group and now has developed a collection of handbags, totes, cross bodies and small leather novelty goods under her lifestyle brand ED.  Ellen collaborated previously with the group to create her shoe line that is retailing now.

The collaboration was announced last Fall and is available now at better retailers like Nordstroms and at specialty boutiques.  It appears that the collection is also available through her site edbyellen.com, however we checked and there was only a small selection available through the site and all items were sold out.

The collection offers handbags ranging in price from $128-$278, wallets and small leather accessories range from $38-$78.  The collection features signature prints by Ellen as well as some very quirky, novelty designs. As one might imagine, the overall tone is very casual and laid back (like Ellen), definitely more weekend casual or weekday errand running versus 9 to 5 work options.

What do you think ladies?  Ellen has a great reputation and solid fan base, which would surely help support her new venture–has anyone else heard of or seen the line?   Made a purchase?  What is the most noteworthy item in the collection?

Let is know what you think. We’d love to hear from you!

Bag Review: Henri Bendel West 57th Crossbody Hobo

Hi, Hi, Hi!!  We are pretty excited about today’s post– a new bag review!  We love bag reviews– why, do you ask?  Because the need to post a bag review means we have a NEW  bag and we LOVE new bags ;-)!  The West 57th Crossbody Hobo is our feature bag for today.  This style is not a “brand new” style from Henri Bendel, this bag was offered in the Fall of last year, however there are some new and FABULOUS Spring colors that is placing this bag in the spotlight once again and breathing new life into a very functional and on trend style!

All about the bag:

The bag is 100% Saffiano leather– very versatile and resilient!  Fully lined inside with signature satin HB lining.  Magnetic closure, interior and one exterior front pocket.  The fabric and leather trimmed crossbody strap measures in at a generous 22″long.  Bag measures approx.:  11″ H x 14″ W x 2.5″ D.

The West 57th Crossbody is available in 5 of the top trending colors for Spring!  Available in Chipmunk (shown above), Indigo Bunting (shown above), Poinciana, Sea Salt and Bodacious.  I have the crossbody in Chipmunk and I love it!  I must admit I wasn’t attracted to the style at first, but I tried it on and the rest is history!  The bag was very comfortable and overall a great fit.  I am always on the hunt for functional yet stylish accessories that help keep me at least feeling polished while I am out and about running errands or running about town with my kids!

This very lovely bag will make an awesome Valentine’s Day gift (hint, hint) for some lucky lady.  And ladies, if your guy needs a little help feel free to print our this post and leave it in strategic yet obvious places for your beau to find!  Right now HenriBendel.com is offering a free gift with every $200 purchase!  Don’t miss!

  • 100% Saffiano Leather
  • Comfortable long crossbody strap
  • Gorgeous color options
  • Inside zippered middle compartment and large zippered pocket
  • Bag is fully lined
  • Could hold an Ipad mini or tablet – may have to sacrifice other items
  • Monogramming available

  • Retails for $278; for the price there are definitely other crossbody bags available; the price is definitely in line with a typical HB bag
  • The inside of the bag felt a bit small to me, I wasn’t able to use the magnetic closure once all of my items were inside– but I think with most crossbody styles women tend to edit what they carry in order to maintain the overall look of the bag when worn, so I don’t know if this will be a big concern to some
  • Magnetic closure; this didn’t bother me very much, but I know that this can be an important feature for some as magnetic closure don’t offer the same security as a zippered bag
  • Shoulder strap isn’t adjustable

Bag Scorecard
Looks:  8
Value:  7
Functionality:  9
Size:  7
Overall Rating: 31/40; a little pricey, but overall a great looking, stylish bag for work or play

What do you ladies think– perfect Valentine’s gift or “no thanks”?  We’d love to hear from you!  Do you own this bag?  Tell us what you think!

This bag was purchased by me for me, I did not receive as part of any promotional incentive or gift

Must Have Series: The Best Hobo Bags For Every Girl!

Welcome to our must-have fashion series of posts!  There are just some things that every girl “must-have”, so this series of posts are dedicated to those things that a girl must have in her closet.  A great hobo bag is one of those things and you’re in luck, “Best Hobo Bags” is the first installment of the must have series, so you haven’t missed a thing!  We are super-excited to pull these options together because well honestly, it gives us yet another reason to shop!  To celebrate the series we will be offering a FABULOUS giveaway this month, so stay tuned for more information.

Hobo bags offer a slouchy yet sophisticated bag look, these bags are versatile; great casual everyday bag option but can be an awesome work bag choice.  The only shortfall I see when carried as a work bag is the potential for this shape to not be super laptop friendly, if you have a need to carry one daily.  Given that this shape has less structure and designed to collapse in on itself, carrying a laptop inside along with your other items might not work well.  There are more structured options available that could work well, we’ve captured a few in this post.  With so many fabulously wonderful options available, who can pick just one?!  We’ve pulled together a small collection of affordable hobo bag options, some are new and some are tried and true classic styles, hope you enjoy!

As always we enjoyed doing our shopping homework and sharing it with you!  Do you like the hobo bag style?  What bag(s) have you identified as a “must-have” for Fall?  Leave a comment, we’d love to hear from you!

Happy Shopping!

“FALLIN” On a Budget! Wallet Friendly Pieces!

Fallin’ on a budget!  Get it??!  Like Ballin’ but different.  I honestly can’t take credit for that little catchy phrase, I actually heard a very giggly girl say it to her friend while in the fitting room at Nordstroms and it stuck in my head!  The phrase did spark this post, so for that I have to say “thank you” giggly girl!  I am quickly getting into the Fall mind-set, could it be that I am over the 90 degree weather here??  So looking forward to Fall dressing so, with a budget-conscious filter,  I’ve selected a few must-have looks for Fall, the best part–they are all under $100!

Browse my picks and let me know what you think!  These options are meant to be inspirational– so you don’t like a black Fedora (who doesn’t??) check out the many gray options, wine colored booties aren’t quite you– I spotted a gorgeous titantium colored pair!  So many options!  You will find many pieces like these around all season, so visit your favorite store(s) and shop, shop, shop!

Happy Shopping!

What do you think?  Would love to  hear back from you and see your Fall picks!

Coach 1941 Goes Rogue!

OMG!  Who has seen or maybe hasn’t seen the new swoonworthy and oh, so Fabulous, Coach Rogue bag?!  I must admit, I am not a huge fan of the brand, sure I’ve owned a Coach bag or three in my handbag past however, over time I found myself thinking that the brand, the look had just became a bit too predictable and well, boring.  So boring and predictable that it was beyond easy for EVERYONE to knock them off in every way possible.  And when that happens, well…Make no mistake about it, the quality of the Coach leather bags was always substantial, but the styling just no longer resonated with my personal style.  I felt in a lot of ways the brand was targeting either the very young or much older and I was in the middle– not young, not old, but definitely fashionable :).  Anyway, this latest collection of bags might be a game changer, this bag in particular is definitely  giving me pause and I am giving it some serious consideration!  This bag is gorgeous and would be a great addition to any Fall wardrobe!  The Rogue bag’s original debut was earlier this year as part of Coach’s Pre-Fall/Fall showings so it is most definitely available NOW!  This bag is available in an array of hot hot colors and materials for the Fall season!

The bag is from Coach’s 1941 collection which is its higher-end, more couture– if you will, collection. That being said, be prepared, this bag and any other bag from the collection is a bit pricier than your average Coach bag, prices for this bag start at $795.  The bag is available in other exotic materials and accents which can increase the price to upwards of $1400.

The Rogue bag is made of beautiful glove-tanned pebble leather, features luxurious suede lining and beautiful signature hardware, including protective feet on the bottom (always a nice add).  The bag is divided into two compartments and features two top handles and a removable straps so that you may carry the bag on your arm as a satchel or over your shoulder.  The bag measures: 9″ (L) x 5″ (H) x 2″ (W).

The bag does have a bit of weight– I personally don’t think that it’s heavy but I’ve heard from some that the bag was a tad bit heavy.   Not uncomfortably so, but you would definitely notice that you were carrying this bag.   Keep in mind this is a quality leather bag with substantial hardware accents, you should expect it to have a bit of weight. Disclaimer:  I tend to favor bags that are on the larger side, and I often carry a lot in my bag, so my expectation and tolerance is probably different from most :).

Do you own this bag?  Love it?  Or just “meh”?  Tell us what you think, I’m still considering so I’d love to hear from you!

Bag Review: Henri Bendel Uptown Satchel

Henri Bendel Uptown Satchel

Mornin’ Fellow Purse Lovers and Bag Ladies!

I was at the mall not too long ago (shocker!) and visited the Henri Bendel store, one of my absolutely most favorite stores!   I love the sparkle and the oh so chic girly ambiance of their stores, such a Fabulous place to shop!  For me, store visits usually translates into purchases and so today we are reviewing my new piece of eye candy– the Henri Bendel Uptown Satchel!

This bag is gorgeous, so ladylike and chic!  Perfectly compliments a work week outfit and totally elevates a dress down boyfriend jean Saturday look!  The leather is quality as is the case with all Henri Bendel bags that I’ve purchased.  This bag is available in the new color-blocked leather (pictured above), solid colored pebbled leather and a lizard textured version.  I purchased my bag right before the summer and snagged the light green version, the color is sort of an electric yellow meets chartreuse hue, adds a great pop of color to just about any outfit.  Try it against cream and more neutral tones or pop a tonal gray or black outfit.  I’ve received so many complements on my bag that I decided to write this post just in case any of you other very fashionable ladies were considering adding this bag to your collection!  At the time of this post, I may or may not be seriously considering the purple color– could look amazing with red or burgundy colored pieces this Fall, hmmmm…

The bag measures approx. 10″H X 12.5″ – 14.5″W X 5.75″D; and has a handle drop of  5″ also comes with a removable and adjustable shoulder strap.  It features a turn lock closure, fully lined interior with pockets and metal feet for protection.  The bag is structured but versatile, the shoulder strap allows you to wear it as a shoulder bag, crossbody or remove it altogether and carry as a satchel.  I personally enjoy carrying satchels when I’m going to the office– definitely amps up my “ladylike quotient”, so the 5″ drop is the perfect length for me as it allows me to comfortably keep the bag close to my body when carrying it on my arm.  I absolutely love this bag!

The bag is also available in a mini version– ADORABLE!!  Has all of the same features and styling but in a more compact size.  The mini measures approx. 7″H X 10″W X 3.5″D with a  3″ handle drop, starting retail price $298.  Image below shows the Uptown Satchel and the Mini Uptown Satchel side by side.

Henri Bendel is now boasting an extra 10% off all new arrivals and an extra 10% all handbags and accessories!  That means, you can score this beauty for an extra 10% off or check their sale items and get current season’s colors at an even bigger discount!  For example, the light green Henri Bendel Uptown satchel is now available for only $224.10!

Henri Bendel Uptown Satchel; $498:

  • 100%  Leather
  • Expandable
  • Removable and adjustable shoulder strap included
  • Classic ladylike style
  • Awesome color and material options

  • The bag is very structured and even though it expands it will not hold a lot of bulky items; keep in mind, it is not intended to be a tote or carry all
  • This bag will set you back  $498 for the solid pebbled leather version; It’s not an everyday bag, I think for most $498 would be an investment

Bag Scorecard
Looks:  10; this is a beautiful bag!
Value:  6 (awesome bag; but it’s pretty pricey for a “non-everyday” bag)
Functionality:  9
Extras:  7 (monogramming on most item is available for an extra fee; all bags and accessories come with a dust bag for protection; orders are packaged and wrapped with the signature HB paper and includes an iconic striped shopping bag)
Overall Rating: 32/40; beautiful, stylish bag for work and weekends with the girls!

I love it!  Tell me, what do you think of the Henri Bendel Uptown Satchel?  We’d love to hear back from you!

Henri Bendel has launched a new Fall collection (yay!) stay tuned for an overview, I know there will be something for all of us to love!

Bag Review: Mark & Graham Elisabetta Slouch Handbag

Hello Fellow Purse Lovers and Bag Ladies!

At Chickwares we LOVE bags, accessories and all things Fabulous!  Regularly we provide reviews of bags and other accessories to help keep you , the reviews may be of the latest “IT bag”, a recent Fabulous bag we came across or perhaps a poular trending accessory or style.  We aim to provide readers with useable and entertaining information. We hope you enjoy!

Today we are reviewing the Elisabetta Slouch Handbag from Mark Graham.  I picked this bag to review because I’ve been interested in the brand since my first purchase and was pleasantly pleased with this new bag and thought I’d share for others out there interested in purchasing or just discovering the brand.

MG_CrimsonLet me begin by saying that I did not receive my bag as a part of any promotional incentive.  This bag was purchased by me, for me :).   I’d been eyeing this particular bag for a while, I loved the style and the fact that I could get it monogrammed.  Every item offered from the brand can be personalized free with a monogram, if you are a lover of any and all things monogrammed like me, this is a big plus!

As I mentioned, I’d been eyeing the style for awhile, but held off from committing to the bag purchase because of the price.  The bag retails for $398, I was a bit leery handing over $400 for a bag that I couldn’t touch or feel from a brand I wasn’t so sure about.  I’d only previously purchased the M&G Boho Suede Zip Pouch (which I love) from the brand, so no first hand experience with their handbags.  I knew that it was possible to purchase a Tory Burch or a Marc Jacobs bag for example, brands whose quality I was very familiar with. I asked around and spoke to a few people who had purchased M&G leather bags which helped to put my mind at ease about the quality of the bags.  That being the case I knew that I still wanted to see if I could catch the bag on sale, I kept a watchful eye and finally my diligent stalking of the site paid off!  The bag in a color I wanted was finally on sale AND, I’d received a coupon from the brand for my birthday!  Happy Birthday to me!

I received the bag, wrapped and packaged so nicely that I almost didn’t want to open it!  The first thing I noticed was my monogram, loved it!  I immediately transferred my items to my new toy!  I was a bit surprised by the leather, I expected it to be less stiff, as per the description.  The bag was described as being slouchy, relaxed and unstructured,  this wasn’t the case in my opinion.  I felt that the bag had more structure which may or may not be a bad thing, just noting that the overall feel was not as described.  I did appreciate that the bag had two separate compartments, made organizing my goodies very easy.
The bag is large, measuring 10″ h x 15.25″ w x 8″.  Made in Italy.  Available in:  *Crimson, Black, Fog, Tangerine, *Squash, Navy, Kelly Green, *Teal and Cobalt.  *indicates color is currently on sale

  • 100% Italian Leather
  • Comfortable rolled leather straps
  • Inside zippered middle compartment and large zippered pocket
  • Bag is fully lined
  • Protective feet on bottom
  • Great size; could hold a small laptop, definitely holds an iPad comfortably
  • Good value, the bag retails for $398 however, I snagged mine, monogrammed for ~$265
  • Free monogramming (available free on any item)
  • Timely shipping; with monogram delivery took only about 5 business days

  • Retails for $398; I think $398 is a bit steep for a lesser known handbag brand; could easily find other styles by popular well-known brands
  • Leather felt a bit stiff
  • Bag is fully lined (pro), however the “natural” color of the lining was a bit disappointing, would have preferred a more tonal lining (which is available on other colors)
  • No closure; this didn’t bother me very much, but I know that this can be an important feature for some
  • Does not include a shoulder strap; I knew this prior to purchasing but after carrying the bag and an armful of groceries I realized I would have appreciated a shoulder strap.

Bag Scorecard
Looks:  8
Value:  7 (based on the regular price of the bag)
Functionality:  9
Extras:  9 (free monogramming & gift wrapping)
Overall Rating: 33/40; great looking, stylish bag for work or play

All in all the M&G Elisabetta Slouch is a great bag, it looks very polished and the monogramming gives it that something extra special!  I think anyone who owns this bag would be very satisfied with it.  Given the discounts I was able to take advantage of when I purchased mine made my deal even sweeter,  and I have no regrets, the Elisabetta is a nice  addition to my collection!  Select colors are now on sale, if you love this bag, don’t miss the opportunity to grab one at the discounted price!

What do you think–is the M&G Elisabetta Slouch Handbag the bag for you?  We’d love to know what you think!
